If you’ve been thinking about creating an explainer video then cost is likely at the forefront of your mind.
As you’ve probably guessed, video production is not cheap. So finding the right service, at the right price is important. But how much should you expect to pay for an explainer video?
Well, that depends.
Our research has found that you can expect to spend anywhere from $500 to $40,000 for an explainer video.
Why the large inconsistency in cost?
The differentiating factor between a $500 explainer video versus, say, one that is $30,000 comes down to one thing: customization.
You shouldn’t expect to receive a fully custom-made video for any less than $2,000. Videos created for less than this price floor are typically created using pre-made assets and animations.
What is a “non-custom” explainer video?
There are lots of services out there that only use pre-made assets (characters, backgrounds, etc.) in order to make their services affordable for startups and businesses on a shoe-string budget. In fact, our own Animated Explainer package draws from our library of thousands of assets to create “custom-fitted” videos for businesses that are only able to afford to spend a few hundred dollars.
But if what you’re after is a video that is unique to your brand then a fully custom video is the way to go. However, expect to pay no less than $2,000 for a 30-second video. From there, prices can reach as high as $40,000 so it’s best to shop around.
It depends on your budget and whether customization is important to you
There isn’t a right or wrong answer for how much an explainer video should cost. The best explainer service depends on your budget and whether or not having a fully custom video is important to reach your video goals.
But if you want our rule of thumb, you should be paying no more than $1,000 for a templated video and no less than $2,000 for a custom video.
